by André Groult (1884-1966)
France, circa 1922

35 ½” high; 29 ½” wide; 27 ½” deep; Seat Height 17"

This elegant comfortable bergère has an exposed frame in hand-carved walnut with a stylized frieze of feathers. The wood is enhanced with red, gold and black. The high enveloping back with sloping scrolled arms rests on the front supports. The lower rail with carved strip rests on baluster-shaped front legs with angle-cut corners and saber back legs.
This chair may be unique. There are several similar chairs known with carved flowers instead of feathers by Groult.
