FRENCH ART DECO IMPORTANT LARGE COPPER VASE

by Theodore Chanut (1876-1945)
France, circa 1930

17” high; 13 ½” wide

Flared hammered copper vase decorated with geometric patterns in brown tones on black background.
Signed with circular intaglio cachet.

Chanut was an ebeniste, ceramist and dinandier during the period from 1900 to 1930. He was a student of Georges Hoentschel. His work is similar to Claudius Linossier with his hammered surfaces and copper red patinas, and he also worked in Lyon, as did Linossier.
