FRENCH ART DECO BALUSTER DINANDERIE VASEby Jean Dunand (1877-1942)
France, circa 1925
13 ¾" high; 5 1/2" wide
Patinated brass inlaid with silver geometric design with original liner.
Inscribed JEAN DUNAND/ 4340 underneath.
Dunand created his vases from a single circular metal sheet through the complex art of dinanderie - traditional metalworking techniques for making hand-hammered brass and copperware. Dinanderie could then be embossed or engraved as well as inlaid or encrusted with colored metals - gold, silver and nickel - which were poured into the dovetail cavities.
